The Club

The Arbutus Club was established in 1964 as a single ice arena. The Club operates with the philosophy of "Putting Families First". In addition to tennis The Arbutus Club offers everything from childcare to creative arts to physical fitness. The Arbutus Club has something for everyone and is a fun and friendly place for all ages. The Club is nestled in the quiet surroundings of one of Vancouver's finest neighborhoods, just off Arbutus Street (Nanton Avenue) across from the Arbutus Village Square, The Club is only minutes from downtown Vancouver.

Facility

The Arbutus Club has a total of ten hard courts, four courts are housed in a permanent structure for indoor play year round. Two additional courts are made available for indoor play during the winter season by covering them with a removable tennis bubble, these courts are available for outdoor play during the summer season. Four courts are available for play outdoors year round. In addition to tennis The Arbutus Club has five international squash courts with viewing area; one racquetball/handball court; fully equipped gymnastics studio; full sized gymnasium which can accommodate one basketball court or two volleyball courts or four badminton courts; full fitness centre including group fitness studio and weight room; curling rink with seven sheets of ice and viewing area; main rink with NHL sized ice surface and four full sized change rooms; mini rink; aquatic centre featuring a six lane (25 metres) indoor pool, a deep tank with two diving boards, a beach-entry tot pool, family whirlpool and family change rooms; Adult lounge equipped with a data port and designed for quiet activities such as playing bridge; Adult change room and lounge facility providing toiletries, towel service, lockers, whirlpool, steamroom, sauna, massage services and televisions; Children's centre supervised by qualified staff with child sized washroom, baby change area and large play area; Homework room with six cubicles, chairs and desk lamps; Youth room equipped with TV, VCR, playstation, pool tables, ping pong table, foosball table and air hockey table; Family Fun centre which includes a batting cage, golf swing area, bouncy castle, 9 hole miniature golf, pre-school play area and a turf surface for indoor soccer and field hockey; Arts and Craft Studio used for a licensed pre-school includes a kitchenette, play area and computer station; Dance Studio with opposing walls of floor to ceiling mirrors, ballet bares and sound system; Six Music Studios for private and small group instruction with a wide assortment of instruments available and sound system; The Arbutus Club Pro Shop; Food and Beverage services are provided by the Bistro (casual dining), The Arbutus Lounge (sports bar) and Fireside Grille (fine dining); Banquet and catering facilities for special events and Boardrooms with catering service for business functions are also available.

Programs

The Arbutus Club provides its members with a variety of instructional programs for all ages and ability levels. These programs are offered by Head Tennis Pro and Coordinator Pat Macken. Programs include small group, semi-private and private lessons, video lessons, match analysis, adult league team practice sessions, adult group lesson series, adult advanced drill sessions, adult one-shot workshops, adult tournament doubles camps and a comprehensive Junior Program. Organized play at The Arbutus Club includes ladders, men's arbutus Davis cup team play, men's and women's inter-club league teams, adult doubles tournament, adult mixed doubles tournament, in-house tree league, survivor banquet and dance, weekly junior match play and junior club tournament.
